Most spirulina is grown in open ponds and dried at high heat into a dusty powder. We built SimpliiGood to do the opposite — grown clean, frozen fresh, tested hard, and kept whole. Here are the five things that actually make the difference.
Almost all spirulina on the shelf is spray-dried at high heat into a powder — which is exactly where the dusty, pond-like taste and the loss of heat-sensitive nutrients come from.
We never dry ours. We harvest living spirulina every day and flash-freeze it within 24 hours, straight into clean cubes. Nothing heated, nothing powdered — so it's virtually flavor-free, with the blue phycocyanin and green chlorophyll kept intact.
24-hour fresh
Spirulina is a non-toxic blue-green algae — but spirulina grown in big, loosely managed open ponds can be invaded by other algae strains that produce microcystins, which are harmful to people.
We don't take that risk. Ours is grown in controlled greenhouse pools of food-grade fresh water, with conditions managed so closely that other algae simply can't take hold. Clean inputs, clean water, clean algae.
Growing pools
The real safety questions with any spirulina are heavy metals and cyanotoxins — and both trace back to the water and the environment it's grown in. We monitor and filter our cultivation water before it ever reaches the pools.
Then we don't just take our own word for it: every harvested batch is sent to independent, third-party labs and tested for heavy metals, cyanotoxins and other contaminants. If a batch doesn't pass, it doesn't ship.
Lab-tested
Spirulina is blue-green for a reason — it carries two remarkable antioxidants at once: blue phycocyanin and green chlorophyll. The trendy bright-blue extracts are chemically processed to strip the green away and isolate the blue. That's a lab ingredient, not a food.
We keep spirulina whole and unprocessed — one ingredient, spirulina and water — so you get everything the algae actually makes, not a fraction of it.
Whole food
Grown and handled to the US food-safety standards you'd expect of real food: produced in an FDA-registered food facility, Non-GMO Project Verified, vegan and gluten-free.
And behind every tray is more than a decade of doing one thing — growing spirulina — and refusing the shortcuts that made so much of the category taste, and test, the way it does.
Greenhouse-grown
Every cube holds to the same six promises — the ones most of the category quietly skips.
Taste the difference.
